The Office of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Assistant General Secretary has strongly condemned the ongoing political unrest in Osun State, citing the rising violence, casualties, and the growing threat to public safety. With academic activities still in progress, this crisis poses a serious danger to students and disrupts the peaceful learning environment that institutions should uphold.
Educational institutions should be centers of knowledge, not battlegrounds for political conflicts. Unfortunately, the escalating violence in Osun State has left students in fear and distress, with alarming reports of bloodshed and unrest spreading across several areas.
In light of these developments, the NANS Southwest Assistant General Secretary, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (Billioncode), has issued an urgent call to action, demanding that key authorities take immediate steps to restore order and ensure student safety.
To prevent further loss of lives and protect students, the Office of the NANS Southwest Assistant General Secretary is calling on:
- His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct federal security agencies to take decisive action in quelling the crisis and securing students.
- His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke to deploy all available resources in restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all residents, particularly students.
- The Osun State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to intensify surveillance, increase security presence, and take lawful measures to prevent further violence, especially in school environments.
Tertiary institution leadership and student union bodies to work closely with security agencies in protecting campuses and ensuring students are well-informed and safe.
Students across Osun State are urged to remain vigilant, avoid violence-prone areas, and prioritize their safety. Student leaders must also engage authorities proactively to ensure the protection of their members.
